yahoo launches new search crawler

Thankgod, yahoo did something about their crawler.
Yahoo! It's been few months now that I've been complaining to them that their crawler was crashing one of my sites. Every night - on the clock @ 2.15am PST – they would unleash 100’s of crawlers – all downloading at the same time! So instead of normal ~100 child process on apache – I would see ~300, 400, 500, 1000 increasing within minutes and then the server would crash… I’ve sent them my logs and politely explained that it’s not very convenient for me to go to the server room in the middle of the night – every night… Anyway, I end up applying mod_evasive on them so now they are still doing this but are limited to ~200 connections so it’s bearable for the server. -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. One hour into 01 August 2006 (GMT) Slurp has only hit me 14 times compared to GoogleBot's 170. Before the new Slurp, Yahoo would be at the top of the list with a massive hit-count. I don't think changing the crawler will help webmaster's. Before this update i have noticed releavant and spam free results on Yahoo, but after this update spam sites are coming on top. In few industries free sites or blogs are coming in top.
If they really want to make some change than they should remove spam sites and show good and spam free results

thats nice to hear :d, yahoo was realling taking lot of bandwidth from my site and my provider was having issues and wanted to charge me more.

its good that they are improving. am sick of these crawlers keep on indexing one and the same content lot of times.

i think this is a nice step from yahoo. there was lot of bandwidth usage on my site from Yahoo and MSN crawler

msnbot doesnt bring any traffic and i dont know why it keeps on tracking my site and keeps on consuming bandwidth on my site. it is good that Yahoo has changed some things. i am waiting for some SERP update on yahoo, the sites are at the same level.
