An incident between the AITDomains registrar system and the Public Interest Registry (PIR) system, recently resulted in dozens of .org domains being deleted and placed in redemption, announced AIT, an ICANN accredited registrar.
AIT, in conjunction with ICANN, is investigating and has requested PIR to immediately restore service to all affected customers, while the issue is being resolved. As yet, PIR has not responded to the restoration request, saying that AIT and its affected customers are obligated to pay a restoration fee for each impacted domain. But AIT defends its stand by saying that no registrar would delete so many domains at once, especially ones that have yet to expire.
At present, the company is assisting affected customers and doing limited restorations at its own expense. According to the company, most of the purported deletions supposedly occurred on November 11th, 2005. It has expressed concerns with PIR security and has filed reports wi
