Default fan power usage.....

Hi everyone,
We just moved from 1u supermicro cases to matx cases to lower the general server cost. We found that we wouldn't fill 2/3 of a rack if we used 1u and it was just logical to use matx.

The heat factor is also the worrying factor so was looking at some powerful fans. You always see on fans they use 0.3amp/12v but how much does that work out to be at the final power usage? Are fans something you have to worry about in the long run or do they make a non exsiting dent into a racks amp usage? Any idea regarding this? Plz reply.

0.3A at 12V would be 4W, which sounds about right. Assuming you're running your rack on 120V power, you would be adding 0.03A per fan. If you're putting 3-4 of them in a server, you'll end up adding 0.1A per server. -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --
