Default hosting suggestions

I've begun the research of digging through the hundreds of hosting companies out there. My team wants a small information/contact website, so I've been given the "honor" of the design and implementation. Since I've never done this before, I want to make sure I take the right steps.

So far I've checked out Hostway, Hosting Unlimited, and Go Daddy. Since it's a really simple page, bandwidth usage will be low, server space will be low; price won't be too high I'm assuming.

I've been armed with FrontPage for design and aside from domain name registration, will I have to license or register the actual site?

I also wasn't sure if the webserver's OS would make a difference I'll be designing on XP, but if the host is Unix, will it cause a conflict? Or, will the server's OS make a difference where the user browsing the page has XP or Unix?

As you can see, by my n00bian questions, I don't really know where to start but do kno -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --

It does not matter which OS you use to create your website. You can create your website on Windows and then upload it to a Linux server, which is what many people do.

Hi

What I highly suggest is that you search through some very credible web hosting ranking sites. There are many on Google.

Also, check through these forums and look for different hosts. Check Google out as well. May I suggest that if this is a company contract page that you need to put up, you will want the uptime to be at its absolute maximum. I would highly suggest you go with a very popular host for that, as you don't want your customers or clients trying to view a page that is not online. You may lose customers or clients.

I hope your page creation and hosting search goes out well for you! -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --

Hi mate

Are you using ASP, .NET? If it's just HTML, you can use Windows or Linux hosting. However, if you are using ASP, .NET with SQL Server, I would suggest you will use Windows hosting. There are some software allowing to run ASP on Linux, but I dont hear many good comments about them.

Hello

The title should say it all but I will repeat. On July 20, 2006 Hostway's EMC Storage array used for emails failed.

We are all now 26+ hours into the outage and no email.

Hostway PR apparently has decided no press would be best in this situation.

thanks -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --
