Ask PHP about mySQL existing connection?

Hi all,

I was wondering: is there a way to check with PHP whether a mySQL connection already exist between a script and the database. In that case it can be decided to connect or leave things as is...

What exactly is the situation ? Without knowing any details , it seems you should know whether or not you have a connection..
