Error:"Cannot fetch charset information."

Hi all of you,
I run mysql on a linux machine and then connecting to it using mysql admin from my windows machine. Later, it started getting a vague error. Went to the catalogs, click on one, click on "create table" and I get the error "Cannot fetch charset information." Anyone knows what that means or how to fix it?
