installing QL on Debian gives error?

hi there,
i want to install MySQL on Debian. i have got the packet *.tar.gz and unpacked it. After that, we have executed the following:

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql --with-mysql-user=mysql

but, it has stopped showing the following:

checking for termcap function library... configure: error: No cursor/termcap library found.

am i doing something wrong? Plz help!
