Error number 1045

I just upgraded from 4.1 to 5.0 and I can no longer log onto MySQL. I uninstalled it and reinstalled to no avail. I uninstalled and reinstalled MySQL Admin 1.1.4. Port 3306 is open. It is pingable. The instance is running. When I attempt to login using MySQL Administrator I get error number 1045. I would scrub the data file, except I have to much important data.

Please give sugesstions.
