Problem with System Variable

I want to change a system variable!

I have to change the value of 'ft_min_word_len'

But when i try it with 'set ft_min_word_len = 3' i get an error message

ERROR 1193: Unknown system variable 'ft_min_word_len'

where is the mistake??

You can not change ft_min_word_len during runtime. It requires restarting MySQL. Note that all full text indexes must be recreated after changing ft_min_word_len.
