Problems connecting to mysqld from mysql

I have unzipped the win32 edition of MySQL 5.0.16 and changed to the bin directory. I started the mysqld. Then I tried to start the mysql client and connect to it. I got this error:

C:\Documents and Settings\Jakob\Skrivebord\jakob\products\mysql\mys ql-5.0.16-win
32\bin>mysql
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'ODBC'@'localhost' (using password: N
O)

You need to login to the database. Try:

>mysql -u root -p mysql

then enter the password for root.
