Default Exceeding the Size of a "TEXT"

Hi, I am worried about exceeding the maximum size of a TEXT data type. Should I be worried and use something like a MEDIUMTEXT or LONGTEXT?

The project background is that it is a project that aims to give others ability to create projects and manage them. Kinda vague, but whatever.

So should I have any worries about exceeding the variable size of a TEXT (normal) and use something like MEDIUMTEXT or LONGTEXT data types?

And what effect (other than bigger variables) will MEDIUMTEXT and LONGTEXT have on my server? -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --

Hi adam

Tell me are you going to be searching the documents? If you are then you would need them in your database. If you are creating documents but won't be searching them then you should store them on your server but not in your database. you would then store the path to the documents in your database and edit/modify the documents and store them again. -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. Well if you know you are going to need the larger text variables use them. IIRC the newer versions of mysql what you don't use doesn't get used, so I don't think you end up with a larger footprint except those that actually have that much text in them.

You would also want to consider using MyISAM tables so you can do fulltext indexing on. -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --
