why dont they use the same Search engine alg??

hi folks,
i just realized the search results are different...and that live.com actually gets more traffic than msn.com according to alexa...do you think LIve.com will grow? and how did it get so much traffic so fast, i didnt see much marketing... how is live.com gettting users? and isnt live.com 100% owned by msn.com??

Sorry, I can't contribute too much but I just wanted to throw out there that I like the look and the ranking alg (from a first look) for the Live SE. If you search "gtravelsources" both in msn.com and live.com, you will find live.com get less results than msn.com.

Both use the same algorithm, since msn search is old and now been replaced/taken over my live.com, msn has more popularity.
