Everyone thought Microsoft was nuts challenging Sony's dominance with the playstation by bringing out the xbox... but they've slowly chipped away at it. I find the ipod rather easy to use. And it's small with a good battery life... Gates is going to have to change zunes and add something that the ipod doesn't have but the user will want to seriously compete.

I don't think the Zune will completely fail. If Microsoft underprices the Zune by losing a bit of money per unit and packs it with features it should be able to take a small chunk of the mp3 market this season and slowly climb up.

IMHO, Zune will succeed because they will find a way to tie it into XP Media Center computers. Once they work out the wifi to your "Shared Recordings" folder... you can sync all of your favorite TV programs without having to rely on iTunes to buy them.

Judging from the info on all the new zune info sites, it looks like its going to be very feature rich which the ipod is not.
