Should i get links to my sub-pages also?

I am a bit confused , as i have been doing seo like this all the time , i was making a site and getting links to that website with the keywords i am targetting... but i have read in some posts that i need to get backlinks to the sub-pages also ..

For example if i make a site (using a CMS) with hundreds of pages and i get links with the keywords i am targetting , is this enough? The main page has some content about the keyword i am targetting but the sub-pages also have .. will the sub-pages get neglected? -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members.
