Hello guys

I am noticing quite a few links dropping off my site, particularly ones from forums. Is there some sort of aging on links where some types are not recognized by the engines after a period of time??

It probably has more to do with what tool you're using to check links than anything else.

Can the engines tell the age of a link? Kinda/sorta. They can certainly record the first time they noticed it in their database, and use this information however they choose. That said there are a lot of factors that can come into play with what the various link checkers show.

Do you actively participate in those forums, or do you just drop in to leave a link suchas signature? Many forum operators remove link drops, even though it may be a few days before they do so. If a search engine grabs a forum discussion page before the link is removed, the link might remain in the search engine's index for several weeks or months, or only a few days, before it grabs the page again and removes the (now-vanished) link from its database.

Did you mean that you're noticing less traffic from those links? Or that when you check Google's backward links via the link: command, the forum links aren't showing up as backlinks? Elaborate
