I have been exchanging links for about a year and a half now and then about 2 to 3 months ago my link pages got deindexed and lost their pr. For the past 3 months my link pages will not get reindexed and because of this I am loosing all my good links because I am linking back on a nonindexed, zero pr page. I thought I would start writing articles to build some links. So these are the questions I have.
How many article sites should I submit each article too?
If I submit multiple articles to one article site, would Google count links from each article or just from one?
Should I look for specific qualities of an article site?

the only truly valuable links according to google are from the syndication of the article by true publishers.

Why stop at only directories? There are likely to be many other websites that would benefit from your articles and happy to have them. Go for them, i would recommend.
