why PR dropped

hi all, my PR dropped from 4 to 3.I have not done anything else except link exchanging with websites, submitting to directory sites and posting in forums that said to "Promote your Site". Any relation of this with my PR?

thanks for replying. i may also add here that my ranking also dropped drastically in the search results in google and the sites that are listed above me are mismanaged sites with irrelevent content and broken image links.
