Question domain name age

hi everyone
i have heard a lot about the Search engine rankings and the age of domain.

Does this theory hold water ?

and if we buy an old domain, say 3 years old, will starting a new website help ?

or one should have a working site for many years ?

am totally confused, please advice something -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --

am of the view that an old domain can be a very nice thing to start with. infact if there is some content its the best
otherwise if its parked, then also its better than a new one -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --

IMO, it helps to have an old domain.

Google has specified it in their SEC filing that they give more importance to domains which are registered for more than a year in future -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --

i think the question should be age of site and not of domain.
i have seen some old websites getting good rankings for big keywords even if they are making pages in recent times. -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --
