Default Googles Monopoly

It seems to me it seems like google is becoming a Monopoly of the internet, taking down one company at a time with their great programs.
Google adsense is soaring against most other companies, the only one that is close is YPN.
Google Adwords is the same.
Now Gbuy sticking it to Paypal
and on other threads their are talks of Google ATM card, that would really shut paypal down lol.
They are not really a monopoly because defenition of monopoly is
Exclusive control by one group of the means of producing or selling a commodity or service

but this is the internet so its a bit different.

No

They overcame everything (Yahoo, MSN, DogPile) etc, all on their own. They did it right. Now they're using their power to expand their money making potential. What company doesn't do that?

Monoply is always bad
I am more worried about its major product which is search engine itself.Such large market share will really suck after 2-3 years when 90% webmasters and seo will become helpless. -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --

Govt can't do anything about them either, because if they become too big, the government might not stop them anyway since google pays their taxes and the more earnings, the more tax money to the government -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. Google's not a monopoly at all.
In monopoly a consumer has no choice but to got to the big guy. You have choices. If you don't want to use them , u can use MSN, Yahoo.......
Google's leading and the most popular in it's field, but that doesn't make anybody a monopoly.

Hello shiny

While Its true that Google is the leader in search they really haven't been able to transfer that lead to other areas. They are still behind youtube in video. They haven't been able to really expand to other years of advertising other then search ads.

I agree, they are far away from creating monopoly. -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --

I will say that Google poses an interesting dilemma, they are a price setter in that really than can petty much dictate minimum PPC and other rates without fear of losing too many 'customers', so in that sense they are rather monopolistic, BUT as was wisely pointed out - there are very good 'substitutes' in the form of Yahoo and MSN etc and therefore people don't have to be price takers. -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. I think Google had some good years but I've noticed the gap being closed significantly during the past few years or so.
I'm referring to search engine traffic. In other areas, all 3 have their own strengths but from a web publisher perspective, I'd like to see more competition for adsense. -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --

They are not a monopoly yet but in the future, they surely become, and particularly after they develop their own OS. After all, they run 77% of UKs market right now. -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --
