backlinks update frequency

I've noticed the backlinks to my sites seem to have stayed exactly the same for around amonth. I've added a number of new backlinks, so what I'm wondering is generally how often does Google update its index of backlinks to your site?

It all differs from update to update, i do not know their working method.
