I think there is an AOL indicator here also. Think about when AOL was at the top of its game what were they best know for? Those dang AOL CDs (or floppies) were everywhere!
Now, Google has AdSense. AdSense is everywhere (possibly the cause of most of the SE SPAM also) - it has saturated the market. I think AdSense may be the AOL CD of this decade.
