often the data is much less than what is specified in the column type. So the set column width appears much wider than necessary. but some records contain much more data and without reading all records we cannot decide. So, not an option to bind the automatic column width to the actual data.
Hence, keep the column width a user has set for a specific column or even a specifc datatype and use this value for all further result sets.
