Default mysql command client?

Hello friends,
Installing Mysql 5.0.37 from the source distro, I can start the server through the mysql script in /etc/init.d but before the new installation I could start a client from a command window by typing (e.g.)
mysql -u username -p.
And i got,
"Usage: /usr/sbin/mysql {start|stop|restart|reload} [ MySQL server options ]".
Please tell me what i am doing wrong? Any hints?
Thanks. -- This message may have been cut off and the rest will only be shown to members. To become a member, click here --
